Jakara Movement and The Surat Sikh Conference are excited to announce a new partnership. Starting with this year's January 2012 conference, sevadars from both organizations will be working together to bring you an unparalleled experience. You can expect to see the same level of outstanding workshops found at Lalkaar and Surat in the past coupled with inspiring guest speakers and exciting activities throughout the weekend. As we move forward, we hope to bring many new exciting programs / projects to the East Coast, just as Jakara Movement has done on the West Coast.
Theme
The theme for Surat-Lalkaar 2012 is Kaur Voices: Exalt, Express, Empower. At the conference, we will begin the exploration of the complexity of the ways genderism, sexism, and even casteism affect our relationships as individuals and how they manifest as a community. We will begin the first steps in a conversation to challenge these hierarchies and discuss how we can put into practice the vision of the Gurus and their celebration of equality.
